Onslow Memorial Hospital Hosts Hop into Health

March 20, 2024

A free community health screening event and Easter Egg Hunt

Onslow Memorial Hospital (OMH) will host Hop into Health, a free community health screening event on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The health screening portion of the event will be inside the Onslow Memorial Rehab Center and the community resource tables and Easter Egg Hunt will be outside of the Rehab Center on the front lawn.

"Our goal is to provide our community with access to quality healthcare,” said Penney Burlingame-Deal, President and CEO of Onslow Memorial Hospital. “We believe that healthy communities start with proactive health management and knowledge of local health resources. Transportation is a barrier in our community, which is why we felt it was important to bring as many health screening and resources together in one centralized location.”

Some routine health screenings will be available, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, hearing, and clinical breast exams, as well as cancer screenings for colorectal, lung, and prostate.

"Screening for cancer can be life-saving," said Jennifer Provost, Director of Onslow Radiation Oncology. "It's not just about detecting the disease early, but getting our community comfortable with regular cancer screenings. We want our residents to get screened regularly, because catching the disease in its early stages, when it's most treatable, gives the individual the best chance for survival.”

Other community resources that will be in attendance are Onslow County Health Department, Onslow Community Paramedics, Senior Services, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Feast Down East, United Way, NAACP, Dix Crisis Intervention Center, Trillium One Community, Fit for Life, and more.

There will be two waves for the Easter Egg Hunt. Children 0-3 years old will be 1:30 p.m., and a parent can assist them. Children 4-8 years old will be at 2:30 p.m. with no parents. Please bring a basket or bag if your child plans to participate.
