Onslow Memo­r­i­al Hos­pi­tal Foun­da­tion names new Exec­u­tive Director

The Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors announced the recent appointment of Thomas W. Giffin as its new Executive Director. Giffin brings more than 35 years of development experience to the post designed to generate financial support for Onslow Memorial Hospital, a nationally accredited 162-bed medical facility serving the city of Jacksonville and greater Onslow County.

Giffin previously raised private funding as the Senior Director of Development for the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

“Tom’s experiences interacting with hospital CEOs - in both large and small medical systems across the country - has given him a deep appreciation of the opportunities involved at a vibrant community hospital like OMH,” stated Brandon Mills, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “His experience in aligning the passion of donors, to the needs of the organization he represents, will be key to the Foundation’s continued growth.”

According to Giffin, the Foundation’s goal is to attract private funds by highlighting, “the caring and talented caregivers at OMH, the significant impact donated funds can have on the overall health of residents in the region, and to expand efficient fundraising avenues for our individual and corporate supporters.”

Before shifting his focus to health care, Giffin built an extensive career in higher education, working in fundraising posts at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Virginia Tech University, Clemson University, the College of Law at the University of Cincinnati, and Clayton State University in Atlanta.

Giffin has a Master of Sports Administration degree from St. Thomas University in Miami, a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Shippensburg State University in Pennsylvania, and an Associate Degree in Media Technology from Allegany College in Cumberland, Maryland.

Giffin is a proud member of the Rotary Club, and resides in Jacksonville with his wife, Terry. Along with enjoying the activities of Eastern North Carolina, the Giffins, “enjoy interacting with the very active lives our two grandchildren.”

The couples’ son, Nathan Brown, is a 2003 graduate of the University of North Carolina’s College of Law, served as a JAG Officer in the U.S. Army with tours in Afghanistan and South Korea, and is presently the Chief Administrative Law Judge for the Charleston, West Virginia Hearing Office of the Social Security Administration.
