Onslow Memorial Hospital and Coastal Carolina Community College collaborate to offer a new CNA Residency Program.

JACKSONVILLE, NC- Onslow Memorial Hospital and Coastal Carolina Community College have collaborated to bring a new educational opportunity to our community through the development of a CNA Residency Program. The CNA Residency program offers students the opportunity to work at Onslow Memorial Hospital while taking the required CNA courses and testing at Coastal Carolina Community College. This unique training opportunity provides a 10-week rotation on different departments throughout the hospital. CNA Level I and II programs are available in this collaborative effort.

“Becoming a CNA level I or II can be a very rewarding and fulfilling career, one in which you make a significant difference in patient and family lives at a vulnerable time. The CNA role is also an entry into healthcare practice.” Says Dr. Rose Morgan, DNP, MS, RN, CENP Chief Nursing Officer/Senior Vice President Patient Care Services. Many CNAs go on and further their education and experience and become nurses, lab, radiology, or respiratory technicians, Telemetry monitoring staff, and a wide variety of other important members of the healthcare team. Onslow Memorial Hospital is dedicated to teaching, elevating, and making a difference by improving lives every day for our community.

The residency program between OMH and Coastal is a wonderful example of how strong partnerships can create real value for our community, local employers, and most of all our students. “This program in its relatively short existence has proved to be beneficial to all parties involved and we are proud of the product that has been developed through the hard work and persistence of faculty and staff at both institutions.” says Ashley Gurganus, Division Chair for Continuing Education at Coastal Carolina Community College. “The ability to have a part in preparing a well-qualified workforce in the healthcare field is a rewarding endeavor. We value our partnerships, look forward to building on what has been created, and expanding on these types of opportunities, where and when it makes sense for all stakeholders.”

To learn more information about the program, please attend the CNA Residency Program press conference, happening August 8th, 2023 at 10 am at Onslow Memorial Hospital. The press conference will give attendees a chance to hear from recent program graduates and program leaders. We will also be hosting an Interview Blitz at Onslow Memorial on August 22nd, 2023 from 9am-12pm.
