Autumn: a season of excitement and giving thanks

October 26, 2018

Autumn is a favorite season for so many people. It is a time of fellowship, family, and giving thanks for those people and experiences that add meaning to our lives. As we celebrate the second annual Patient Family Advisory Committee (PFAC) awards, our thoughts turn in thanks to those who care for our patients and their families, and work in harmony with us every day of the year.

As you all know, the PIPER Award is presented to a physician or advanced care provider; the CARE Award is presented to a staff member. Recipients of each epitomize the PFAC mission: to embrace the passion of sensing the needs of others in order to create and enhance service excellence by fostering teamwork, building patient loyalty, and celebrating the joy of caring. I am also so thankful for the ongoing work and dedication of the PFAC volunteers who guide us in this important journey throughout the year. Their focus is always the patient - because the patient's and the family's needs must guide our course. The Patient Family Advisory Committee keeps our compass pointed in the right direction, and we are all better healthcare providers and caregivers because of them.

The best part of autumn is that it feels like a new beginning. Perhaps it's ingrained in us at an early age as we head back to school and have new classes, new teachers and make new friends. Autumn also marks the beginning of our new fiscal year for the Hospital. We are excited about a new year and looking ahead to sharing great things with you in 2019.

Meanwhile, enjoy a crisp autumn apple or pumpkin latte and savor the fellowship all around you. I am so thankful for each and every one of you! I wish you a vibrant autumn as we look ahead to the season of Thanksgiving and our faith-based holidays.

Sincerely,

Penney Burlingame Deal, DHA
