Onslow Memorial Hospital Recognizes First Recipients of The DAISY and PETALS Awards

May 16, 2025

Onslow Memorial Hospital (OMH) has awarded Glanise Jean, RN, The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses, and Brea Bennet-Bell The PETALS Award for professionals who assist nurses. They are among the first recipients of these awards at OMH since the hospital began participating in The DAISY program earlier this year.

The nomination for Glanise highlighted the comforting moments shared between her and a patient. Despite the unfortunate outcome of the patient’s stay, the family praised Glanise’s professionalism and her ability to create a safe and supportive space. The nomination for Brea showcased the challenges that healthcare workers often face, noting how Brea rose to the occasion, handling difficult situations with respect and compassion.

“We are so proud of Glanise and Brea for embodying what it truly means to be recipients of these awards,” said Chief Nursing Officer Rose Morgan. “We received numerous outstanding submissions this quarter, making it difficult to choose, but we believe this program will continue to highlight and honor the incredible team we have at OMH and the care we provide to every patient.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications related to Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon autoimmune disease. The exceptional care Patrick and his family received from nurses during his illness inspired this unique initiative to thank nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families.

Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research, Evidence-Based Practice Projects, Medical Mission Grants, and their new Health Equity Grant programs.
