Onslow Memo­r­i­al Hos­pi­tal Emer­gency Depart­ment Rec­og­nizes Nation­al DEA Med­ica­tion Take­back Day with Injury Pre­ven­tion Event

Onslow Memorial Hospital (OMH) is proud to host a Safe Medication Drop-Off Event on October 26 from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Onslow Memorial Hospital in the front lobby. This event provides a convenient and secure way for community members to dispose of unused or expired medications, to include needles and sharps promoting a healthier, safer environment for all.

In their ongoing commitment to public health and safety, this event aims to prevent the misuse of prescription medications and reduce the risk of accidental poisonings. OMH is proud to partner with local organizations such as the Jacksonville Police Department and the Onslow County Community Paramedics for this event to encourage proper disposal of medications.

• Location: Onslow Memorial Hospital (Front Lobby)

• What to Bring: Unused or expired prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and pet medications, needles (please remove personal information from bottles).

Onslow Community Paramedics will be offering Naloxone Training and OMH Emergency Department personnel will be teaching hands-only CPR training.

“Many people may not realize the dangers associated with keeping unused medications at home,” said Monica Risner, OMH Emergency Department Director. “By providing a safe and accessible way to dispose of these medications, we hope to enhance the well-being of our community and prevent misuse.”

This event is free and open to the public. Trained staff will be on-site to ensure the safe and responsible disposal of medications. Participants will also receive informational materials about medication safety and resources for substance use prevention.

In addition to medication drop-off, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the dangers of opioid misuse and the importance of medication management. Resources will be available for those seeking help or information regarding substance use disorders.
