A whole new world

A whole new world
I recently received an old photograph from a close friend and colleague at OMH with whom I attended nursing school. As I gazed at the picture of fresh new nurses, I noticed the banner hanging over our heads, "A Whole New World of Nurses." I was reminded from where we all have come, where we are now, where we are headed, and-given the "shifting landscape of healthcare"-the bravery and courage that are definitely necessary!

On a daily basis, what fuels the courage to achieve? When we put our hearts and souls into achieving something meaningful, we do so with commitment, purity, and passion. I recently asked the attendees at Mandatories why they entered their chosen field. One attendee spoke up and it was clear from his words that he felt passionate about being of service to others. How great is that?

Patient experience has become so very important as an element of hospitalization that it rivals outcomes. Imagine bringing that passion to work every day. Consider the impact it would have on the patient experience simply as a collateral consequence of being sincere and genuine in your heart and mind as you care for your patients.

Bring passion to your work ... be brave in your efforts to care ... take risks that prioritize your passion ... be glad to learn from your failures because they ultimately make us all better. I appreciate and am privileged to be able to work with all of you. I am confident that while it is, in fact, a whole new world, if we do this together, we've got this!

Sincerely,
