Where we go next

Where we go next

For nearly a year we were in exclusive negotiations with Vidant and CarolinaEast. These negotiations came to an end by our Board's decision at their regular scheduled meeting on October 29, 2015 to withdraw from the Letter of Intent (LOI) partnership because of an impasse in two major areas: (1) anti-trust, and (2) Board governance. Our Board, legal and management teams spent many hours and worked very hard to develop a three-way partnership to improve quality and access to care for the citizens of our community. But we were unable to succeed in this pursuit.

So the question or statement is----where do we go next? What we plan to do is to regroup and develop a plan and strategy to move forward with the intent and goal to consider other organizations and select one with whom we can develop a partnership to accomplish the following:

  1. align and collaborate with physicians in our entire medical community;
  2. design and implement clinical integration of all healthcare services;
  3. design and implement a seamless continuum of care from primary care, home care, long term care, rehab, diagnostic, and inpatient care that includes tertiary care;
  4. improve subspecialty services and coverage of our emergency department

Our intent and goal of where we go next is to provide optimal quality care within our community and reduce outward migration for care we can provide that is supported by a medical community working together in collaboration for the great good of all.

Sincerely,

Ed Piper, Ph.D.

Former President & Chief Executive Officer, 2000-2016
