Holiday Post 2018

December 10, 2018

During this time of year it can be a little hectic as we juggle family gatherings and holiday activities. As I make my rounds throughout the hospital, however, I am reminded that not all gifts come in boxes or have shiny bows. In fact, the best gifts of all are the ones that we receive through the compassion of our OMH family and our community: faith, hope and commitment.

I have seen the gift of faith from our many volunteers who serve on the board of the Onslow County Hospital Authority and the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation board. Their gift of their time and talents is a testament to their ongoing faith in our community hospital.

I have seen the gift of hope from our OMH Auxiliary, which has supported our hospital for more than 40 years. I especially treasure their tradition of the annual Tree of Hope lighting, which for more than 30 years has been a way to show remembrance, admiration, and honor for loved ones.

I have seen how countless Onslow County citizens share their gift of commitment through donations of new stuffed animals for our pediatric patients, donations of blankets for our cancer patients and donations in support of our foundation to make capital improvements.

I have seen how our employees and medical staff share their gift of commitment with our community. Just in the last month I’ve seen donations of toys for Toys for Tots, a food drive for the CHEW program, a Sensitive Santa event for special needs children, and some of our departments shopping for local children in need. Their greatest gift is the daily commitment to provide quality patient care to every member of our community who come to Onslow Memorial Hospital for care.

I am so thankful for your gift of faith, hope and commitment for your community hospital. I am wishing all of you a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Penney Burlingame Deal, DHA
