An important barometer of our performance is recognition in the form of awards and rankings by the many objective third-party institutions that review hospitals across the nation.

Notable accreditation, awards and recognition received:

  • American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Program Gold Plus with Honor Roll Achievement Award in 2020
    • This recognition represents our commitment to treating stroke patients with levels of care outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.   • American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement Award in 2019
    • This honor recognizes 24 consecutive months of achieving benchmark performance in implementing scientific guidelines from the AHA, demonstrating exemplary care for heart failure patients. The recognition signifies that OMH has reached an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients with 85 percent compliance for at least 24 months to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients.     • Onslow Memorial Hospital has earned an 'A' grade seven consecutive times in the Spring & Fall of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Hospital Safety Grade national rankings, administered by The Leapfrog Group.     • This gold standard in medical imaging certifies our facility meets the highest level of patient safety standards and image quality, demonstrating our commitment to quality care and patient safety.     • Onslow Memorial has been granted a three-year term of accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Vascular Testing in the areas of Peripheral Arterial Testing, Peripheral Venous Testing, and Extracranial Cerebrovascular Testing.     • This was presented to the hospital by the Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence for Onslow’s commitment to quality improvement and exceptional performance in order to improve surgical outcomes.
  • Advanced Primary Stroke Center
    • Onslow Memorial Hospital is nationally accredited by the Joint Commission and has recently earned the Joint Commission’s designation as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. OMH was one of the first community hospitals east of I-95 to earn this designation.

Cancer Care Accredited with Commendations

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted Accreditation with Commendations to Onslow Memorial Hospital’s cancer program. This accreditation is awarded to top cancer programs that ensure patients receive:

  • Comprehensive care, including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment
  • Multi-specialty, team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about on-going clinical trial and new treatment options
  • Access to cancer-related information, education and support
  • A registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results, and offers lifelong patient follow-up
  • Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
  • Quality care close-by, near to family and friends

In order to maintain and receive accreditation, facilities must ensure its patients have access to the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support patients with cancer and their families. Facilities also go through regular evaluation to reaffirm its level of program care

In addition to Accreditation, Onslow Memorial’s Cancer Program met the Commission on Cancer’s commendation level criteria for five of the standards.

Onslow Memorial Hospital is constantly working to improve services and expand our offerings so that we can provide the Onslow community with the best healthcare available. This is great news for the Onslow community who can receive top cancer care closer to home.
