OMH to open healing garden for patients, visitors

Onslow Memorial Hospital patients and visitors will soon have a new source of comfort and healing.
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 24 at 11:15 a.m. for the hospital’s new healing garden near the new Onslow Radiation Oncology Center. The garden is the community service project of the Leadership Jacksonville-Onslow class, consisting of Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce members and their employees. The garden is filled with trees, shrubs, grasses and flowering plants all put in place by the leadership class. The hospital joined in the effort by adding separate nooks with bench seating and water features for relaxation and solitude.
“The dedication ceremony is an expression of gratitude to everyone who made it possible,” Onslow Memorial Hospital Spokesman Tim Strickland said. “The healing garden is a huge blessing to our patients. When people come to a hospital they need to feel that they have arrived at a healing place and a haven for respite from their illness.
