The Affordable Care Act: Everything you need to know.

Under the Affordable Care Act, the Health Insurance Marketplace or “exchange” helps uninsured people find health care coverage. Most people MUST have healthcare coverage in 2015 or they will pay a fee of $325 per adult, $162.50 per child, or 2% of your income (whichever is higher). And the fee increases every year. (Some people may qualify for an exemption to this fee.)

You’re already considered covered if you have Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, any job-based plan, any plan you bought yourself, COBRA, retiree coverage, TRICARE, VA health coverage, or some other kinds of health coverage. And even if you’re eligible for a job-based plan you can consider switching to a Marketplace plan.

By filling out a Marketplace application, you can quickly see if you qualify for a lower cost private insurance plan, or find out if you qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
